No, Milli Does Not Like ๐ธ
A story about protecting what you love and the courage to stand by it.
Real parent experiences
About this book
Most of us weren't taught that it's okay to say no.
We were taught to be polite. To adjust. To not make it awkward.
This book begins with a small, quiet moment a boy, his cat Milli, and one gentle "no."
What follows is a story about what that no really means. And why it takes more courage than most adults realise.
Because a child who learns healthy boundaries at 3 doesn't have to unlearn it at 30. ๐ฟ
A Simple Practice from the Book
Before reading this with your child, try this for yourself first.
Think of a time you said yes โ when you meant no.
When you stayed โ when you wanted to leave.
When you smiled โ even though something felt wrong.
That moment? This book is for you too.
Now, when you read it with your child:
- ๐ฑ After Viren says no, ask: "Why do you think he did that?"
- ๐ฆ After the children leave, ask: "Was Viren wrong or were they a little like the fox?"
- ๐ธ After the mother's story, sit quietly. Let them think.
Read the last page together, slowly:
"You are not sour. You are just growing. In your own beautiful time." โค๏ธ
Then ask: "What does that mean to you?" And listen. Really listen.
Why this book is different
This book doesn't teach children to refuse it teaches them to recognise.
Viren's "no" isn't about keeping Milli to himself. It's about protecting her from hurt. That's the difference between a boundary and a wall and that's exactly what children need to see modelled.
Woven inside is one of the oldest fables in the world the Fox and the Grapes retold as a quiet conversation between a mother and son about peer pressure, belonging, and knowing your worth.
Not a lesson. A lived moment. For little ones and for every adult still learning that their feelings were always valid. ๐ฟ
